Summer 2016

So I know summer officially begins the 30th of June but since there is no seasonal change in the tropics ( I live in Jamaica) my summer begins whenever my school year ends. This year I have an extended summer holiday because school ended May 10.

I have so much planned for my summer but a lot of times I get distracted. Here's a list of things I've been doing.

1. Discovering new tv shows or series

I start from season one watching episode after episode because they are so addictive, you just want to know what will happen next. I will not suggest the series I'm watching now because I although it is interesting there are many things that I don't like about it. However these ones are really good.

2. Exercising

I'm doing this to get my body toned and also because it's fun and I feel so good afterwards. I workout from home with no equipment with Fitness Blender at least 5 days each week. My core is my main focus but I ensure that I incorporate cardio and do some lower body workout too.

3. Learning a new language

I am in love with nature and I really enjoy traveling to discover new places. Having a second language would be very helpful with that so I'm teaching myself Spanish. I studied at the high school level but I wasn't very interested so I'm starting over now with Duolingo. It's a really great website and if you would like to learn a new language free where it is fun and interactive. This is a great site to visit and there's also the mobile app.

Summer Project

I also have another important thing to do, I want to write a book this summer. I love writing, that thrill I get from creating an interesting plot is calming.I don't want it to be an average book though so I'll have to improve my writing skills and take a page from other writer's book (no pun intended) by reading more. I'm very excited to star this summer project. Hopefully it will become a reality. I'll be sure to share my progress and maybe an extract from the book with you.

Have a great day.

End of Semester: Reflection and Goals

It's the end of the first semester and well it has been a rough three months mostly due to my procrastination for exams. As for making friends, that didn't work out, instead I learned to enjoy my own company and reconnected with a friend from high school. However, I have made a list of goals for next semester aimed at improving my grades and the whole university experience in general. This is an outline of my goals for next semester:  First and fore most my grades need to improve. My GPA is not bad but I don't want to be average or just about average, I want to make the honor roll next semester and that will require a lot of studying well in advance of finals. My university provide us with a gym and a pool we can use free which sadly, I have never been to. When school begins January I will go to the gym regularly and get in shape. The pool has life guards there who offer swimming lessons, hopefully 2016 will be the year I learn how to swim; so many people have tried ...

Tips on Maximizing Study Time (After Procrastinating)

There are many of us who put off studying so we can watch a show, go out with friends or probably just stay at home doing nothing. If we try to study we get easily distracted, even staring at the wall or the ceiling may be a more fun thing to do. Changing is not an option because it is already finals period. So what do we do? First and foremost we need to practice self-control. From my personal observations, self-control or self-discipline is a better way to get things done rather than relying on motivation. The time you spend looking for motivation to study you could have been studying already. Also, motivation wears off because we are humans and we experience different emotions at various point in time. What do we do then? Do we wait to feel motivated again? Self-discipline says I am going to study no matter my mood, it does not matter whether or not I feel motivated I am going to learn these number of topics today. Pick up the book and begin preparing for exams. Now...
