Summer 2016

So I know summer officially begins the 30th of June but since there is no seasonal change in the tropics ( I live in Jamaica) my summer begins whenever my school year ends. This year I have an extended summer holiday because school ended May 10.

I have so much planned for my summer but a lot of times I get distracted. Here's a list of things I've been doing.

1. Discovering new tv shows or series

I start from season one watching episode after episode because they are so addictive, you just want to know what will happen next. I will not suggest the series I'm watching now because I although it is interesting there are many things that I don't like about it. However these ones are really good.

2. Exercising

I'm doing this to get my body toned and also because it's fun and I feel so good afterwards. I workout from home with no equipment with Fitness Blender at least 5 days each week. My core is my main focus but I ensure that I incorporate cardio and do some lower body workout too.

3. Learning a new language

I am in love with nature and I really enjoy traveling to discover new places. Having a second language would be very helpful with that so I'm teaching myself Spanish. I studied at the high school level but I wasn't very interested so I'm starting over now with Duolingo. It's a really great website and if you would like to learn a new language free where it is fun and interactive. This is a great site to visit and there's also the mobile app.

Summer Project

I also have another important thing to do, I want to write a book this summer. I love writing, that thrill I get from creating an interesting plot is calming.I don't want it to be an average book though so I'll have to improve my writing skills and take a page from other writer's book (no pun intended) by reading more. I'm very excited to star this summer project. Hopefully it will become a reality. I'll be sure to share my progress and maybe an extract from the book with you.

Have a great day.

Self Image and Depression

Recently, I bought some makeup products with the intention of appearing as flawless as the girls I see on YouTube. I was so excited because I have never been an avid makeup user; I may add some pressed powder for medium coverage of my acne scars, some mascara and lip balm then I'd be ready to go. But this time I wanted to go full on with the concealer, foundation, highlight, eyebrow pencil, lipsticks, the whole works. I ended up spending a week's money in a day but it could only afford cheap drugstore products. No surprise, upon reaching home and trying these products I was not satisfied. I felt so disappointed when I realized that to achieve the look I was going for the foundation would cost me US$48. I was so sad because I do not have that type of money for just one thing on my list. Besides, that was what I spent on all the cheap products I bought, realizing that made me feel worse. Also, about two weeks ago I damaged my hair from flat ironing everyday for an entire we...

My Work and Travel Experience

The summer of 2017, I participated in the Summer Work and Travel Program. This program allowed me to work and live in the United States of America for a little over 3 months on a J1 Visa. The main aim of the program is to learn more about American culture by having first-hand experience through living amongst their people. However, this program turned out to be way better than what I had expected. I learned so much and had a wonderful experience that I intend to go back next summer. The company I worked with hired 9 students, four of us were from Jamaica, two from the Philippines, one from Kazakhstan and two from Ukraine. This program is described as a cultural exchange, between American culture and your own culture. But through this program I was learning about more than just the American culture. I shared a home with two Filipino girls, so their culture was one that I came in direct contact with. I loved learning new things from them and they were such amazing person...
